Statement by Association of Governing Boards (AGB) President Richard D. Legon on the Trump Administration’s Decision to Phase Out the DACA Program

“We are deeply disappointed with the Trump administration’s decision, as announced this morning by Attorney General Sessions, to phase out the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The roughly 800,000 individuals who have registered under this policy have passed rigorous tests and are already working and serving the communities in which they live. By definition, those eligible for DACA do not present a threat to national security or public safety—they are ‘incredible kids,’ as the president has already said himself. These are hardworking, bright, young people—embodying traditional American values. Now, more than ever, Congress must act and find a permanent solution to assist these innocent young people.”
